Whew. Solid. Just solid. And let me just state, no spoilers here!
I’ve had an incredibly manic day and only managed to get around to streaming this literally just now, so no caps. And then I’m going out of town very early tomorrow so can’t type up anything too detailed — but; I’m simply bursting to say; it’s BRILLIANNNNT!
We have real, raw characters with layers, nuance, a brilliant script, (relatively) innovative storytelling, great acting (guh! Park Sang-min!) from everyone including even cutie Park Ji-bin, great directing. And some ridiculously compelling plot execution (I’m still buzzing by just how compelling and raw it all feels). It takes a lot of other recent shows attempting this kind of thing — to freaking school!
It’s already showing a lot more promise and potential than History of the Salaryman, there’s seemingly a wider scope, and there’s a relatively weightier, serious feel. And I’m loving the Yoo/Jang duo staples; the fights, the Han River meetings… Still not Giant-like, but I’ll take what I can, thanks!
That’s not to say things might not go downhill at some point sooner or later. The preview for the second episode looked a little tonally awkward, but only tomorrow will tell how well it will be executed. (This is why I usually avoid previews, especially one as spoilery as that). And then I’m actually scared of the timeslot it’s airing in, and I’m not usually the superstitious type. But I’ll take my fretting for it as a good sign, that I care.

really want to watch this
PARK SANGMIN!
Erm. Ladies, after the second episode I’m wondering whether or not they should’ve called this show Indignation of Money. The lengths people would go? In that context it sorta works. Otherwise I’m beginning to worry about this show even more. And that Live Shoot looks pretty imminent already.
I think Oh Yoon-ah needs to be killed off (stat!) in order for me to be able to properly enjoy this show without feeling nervous.
Park Ji-bin is marvellous!!
And… Park Sang-min!! Like we’ve never seen him before. Or have we?
Hmm.
Going to carve out some time to watch some dramas this week! I have to see this “indignation!”
When I said there is a wider scope to play with, as opposed to HOTS’ rather limited corporate world… Well, the world’s your oyster in this world– no holds barred – anything goes. Anything!
However, unlike the previous two projects from this production team, there is something less assured about this. I think the rushed filming took its toll. Which means this ‘anything’ approach might not be a good idea after all.
Let’s wait and see.
Saw the first 3 mins and I was very intrigued. This may have more to do with the fact I know nothing about the story but it looks like that may have been a good thing. So glad I gave up reading synops and watching promos. It’s freeing somehow. Lol.
High five! Best way to go about it! And I LOVED the opening scene.Very Zeni Geba. And we know how I feel about that dorama. I think it’s that which buoyed me through the first episode on a total high.
I found the first two episodes somewhat underwhelming and predictable, but despite that, I got slight vibes of Giant that keeps me intrigued. Plus, Park Sang-min is golden though it’s not quite as brilliant a character as Lee Sung-mo.
I’m a bit wary from what the previews showed for the next episode. Fingers crossed, I’ll still continue watching but hopefully they’ll have enough time to film and deliver a product they’re proud of, instead of rushing and finishing just so they have something to air.
Unnie you’re baaaack! *hugs*
I totally get you on the underwhelming. I must’ve been drugged up whilst watching the pilot as I totally enjoyed it to bits. While the second episode wasn’t worse, it still had a somewhat sobering effect on me.
The narrative structuring is all wrong currently — but the premise is fcuking fanatastic! Exactly what I was craving! xD
Aside from Park Sang-min, Yoon Yong-hyun, Lee Ki-young and a couple other regular familiar PD Yoo/Jang Jakganim fixtures, I’m not enthusiastic about the cast at all. By the second episode I want Oh Yoon-ah’s Bi-ryeong dead. Alas, that won’t happen but can her and PSM’s characters please drift apart after the timeleap?
I’m loving little Park Ji-bin but find the show’s direction is too awry to truly allow us to focus on and enjoy his lovely breakout performance. And Seo Shin-ae’s fatsuit is also distracting, I adore this wonderful little actress but I feel we won’t be given a chance to see her do anything remotely challenging. Very wasteful.
Still, there is a glimmering hope for this show, I just hope things settle into position nicely once the introductory portion is up.
so you love first epi but the second not so much? or are the previews what you don`t like?
i will wait to decide if i watch this or not, as i’m not a big fan of the leads (though i like them both) and i haven’t watch Salary Man (on my “to watch list”) nor Giant.
i’m counting in your opinion
Heyz, I’ll break it down.
I’ll reiterate something I’m sure I’ve mentioned before, it’s a big responsibility having one’s opinion ‘trusted’. ‘Specially for me because I can be flighty and overly instinctive sometimes — but thanks for the vote of confidence. xD
What I do like:
The dark, revenge-thriller premise. The far-reaching scope. The setting, the world.
Park Sang-min. The dearth of black and white characters, lots of murky grey. The plotting at the Han River. The promise of badassery — some of which is also being demonstrated splendidly.
What I don’t like:
The less assured feel to the proceedings — making me very nervous.
Oh Yoon-ah, the actress herself is fine, just her sleazy character is infuriating, she’s sharing FAR too much screen space with Park Sang-min, ruins the momentum and his character’s edge.
Besides I’m still not too sold on the adult leads. I wasn’t nervous initially when I thought KJH will play a smug, skeezy type slightly bad guy, but now that’s seemingly not the case anymore I’m not sure how to feel about it.
Let’s just wait and see.
